A Tournament with a Difference
Six years on and the Sydney Invitational has grown to be, and remains the largest Pro-am in Australia. Prizemoney for the 2010 event will remain at $137,500 and the 256 players will compete at Terrey Hills, Macquarie Links, St Michaels and the recently revamped Lakes golf clubs (host of the 2010 Australian Open).
2010 will again see some of the best and brightest male and female professional golfers compete side-by-side some of Australia's leading Corporate and Sporting identities.
Along similar lines as the famous AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am, Bob Hope Desert Classic, the Las Vegas Invitational and Dunhill Links Championships, the Meriton Sydney Invitational will be a 72-hole, 4-person teams event held over four days from March 23rd to 26th 2010, and will be played over four of the best courses in Sydney.
Each team will comprise of a PGA or LPGA Professional and three amateurs. The scoring system will be a 4 persons team event with the best two nett and gross scores counting on each hole.
The Professionals and amateurs will play for $137,500 in prizemoney and $40,000 worth of prizes and trophies over the 4 days, including daily prizes, as well as the 72 hole Winners trophy and prizes for the nett (main event) and scratch. An individual event will be held in conjunction for professionals and amateurs on each day and overall.
The tournament is Unique
The Professionals win prizemoney based on their 72-hole individual scratch stableford score , and on the two-ball best-ball score recorded by your team. What this means is that your Pro will be relying upon you to contribute to his winning money.
If you haven’t played this type of event before, then you’re in for a treat ! Dont worry about walking as one of our sponsors is Club Car. So all four players in your group are in Australia's best golf carts courtesy of Club Car's involvement.
All competitors will play the same three courses over the first three days of the tournament. After three days each team will have played Terrey Hills, Macquarie Links, and The Lakes. Each team will have an A.M. and P.M. start over the first two days, and day three tee times drawn prior to the tournament starting. The morning shot-gun will be at 7.30am and the afternoon start will be at 1.30pm.
At the end of the third day leading teams will be seeded for their final day's course. The leading 30 teams will be seeded to play in the afternoon at St Michaels, and the remaining 30 teams will iin the morning at St Michaels.
